Glass Staircases Abu Dhabi
Wonder Frames & Glasses designs and installs glass staircases and stair railings across Abu Dhabi villas, duplexes and offices — turning a staircase from a functional necessity into the architectural centrepiece of the home.

A glass staircase does for a stairwell what a glass partition does for a room: it keeps the space feeling open instead of boxed in. Where a traditional timber or wrought-iron balustrade visually blocks a stairwell, glass lets light and sightlines pass straight through — particularly valuable in villas in Khalifa City, Al Reef and Saadiyat Island where stairwells often sit beside a feature wall, a courtyard view, or double-height ceilings worth keeping visible.
We work in three main configurations. Frameless glass balustrades use thick tempered or laminated glass (typically 12–15mm) held by base-shoe or standoff fittings with no visible posts between panels — the cleanest, most contemporary look, and the most requested option for villa staircases. Framed systems pair glass panels with a stainless steel or aluminium handrail and support posts, offering a more cost-effective and traditional finish. Glass treads and risers — load-bearing glass steps rather than just railings — are a more involved structural installation, using laminated safety glass engineered to carry foot traffic, and are usually reserved for statement staircases in higher-end villas and showrooms.
Laminated glass (two panes bonded with an interlayer) is used wherever an extra safety margin matters — load-bearing treads, or staircases without a continuous handrail — since it stays in place even if the outer surface is damaged. Standard tempered glass is sufficient for most balustrade-only installations.
Every staircase is measured on site, since stair geometry — pitch, going, number of risers — varies project to project, and fabricated to those exact dimensions before installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are glass staircases safe for everyday family use?
Yes, when specified correctly. Balustrades use tempered glass as standard; load-bearing treads or risers use laminated glass, which stays in place even if damaged. We assess the staircase on site and recommend the right glass type and mounting system before quoting.
What's the difference between a glass balustrade and full glass treads?
A glass balustrade replaces the railing/banister only — the steps themselves remain whatever material they already are. Glass treads and risers replace the steps themselves with load-bearing glass, which is a more involved structural installation typically used for statement staircases.
Do glass staircases need a lot of maintenance in Abu Dhabi's climate?
Glass shows fingerprints and dust more visibly than solid materials, so regular wiping keeps it looking its best, similar to any glass shower screen or glass door. It doesn't corrode or discolour the way some metals can in humid conditions.
Can you match the staircase to an existing interior design?
Yes — glass can be clear, frosted, or tinted, and paired with stainless steel, black, or timber handrails to match the rest of the property's finishes.
